Hankering for Chick-Fill-A
But
seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be
added to you.
Matthew 6:33
I’m not real big on Chicken. My Father was a preacher and every Sunday our
meal for dinner was chicken. Over the years of my childhood I became chickened
out. Here in the last week or two I have a hankering, as my roommate says, for
chicken. Not just any old chicken but a meal out at the local Chick-Fill-A. I never
once ever thought of stopping in at a Chick-Fill-A but now I feel they are
worthy of my patronage.
I have heard the old clique that if you don’t stand for something you
will fall for anything. I believe that is a problem with our culture these past
many years. We have lost a standard to rise up to and settled for something
less than what is moral rightness. If it feels good and is satisfying and does
not hurt anyone else then it is ok for you. That just simply is not true, how
you behave does have an effect on everyone around you. Along with opinions that
everyone has the influence of people’s actions also causes an effect on others
in their environment. What is said and
done by some has a direct impact on how others may think and believe to be
proper conduct. We see people behaving today in such ways that years ago would
never have been acceptable. We have become more concerned about denying some ones
right to behave badly than correcting someone when we know they are wrong. We call
this political correctness but I call it a grave error in moral judgment. We have
become so politically correct that we have lost the moral courage to be more
concerned with Biblical correctness. Even the church where we look for Biblical
teaching has become lax and will not make a stand on the Word of God.
I do not hate the Homosexual community, in fact I have several
homosexual friends and also several members in my family that are homosexual. As
God is a God of love and loves His creation, sacrificed His Son to reconcile man
to His Kingdom, I also love people. That doesn’t mean I like everybody but I do
have a deep concern for their future beyond this world and life. It certainly
means I do not condone or approve of sinful behavior. Some of my Gay friends
have told me they are just being who they were created to be. I can’t agree
with that argument because we were all created sinful by our nature. When man
fell in the Garden of Eden he was tainted by sin and bears that mark upon the
soul. Jesus came to save the lost by shedding His blood and paying the price
for our sin debt. We all have a desire for sinful behavior and we all must turn
away and seek righteous living.
Chick-Fill-A has made a stand against same sex marriages a position I fully
support. Marriage is an institution of the church not our government. The Bible
clearly speaks out against homosexual behavior and therefore marriage between
two people is that of a male and a female. If for tax purposes and recognition
then let them have civil unions. Let not our governments create an abomination
before God. Marriage is a sacred institution that cannot be violated by sinful
actions. Jesus as the groom will return one day soon to claim His bride the
church. (Rev 19:7 Rev 21:,9) From the day Truett Cathy started Chick-Fill-A, he
began applying biblically-based principles to managing his business. Mr. Cathy
stood and continues to stand on the Word of God.
As a result of Mr. Cathy’s position he has taken a lot of criticism. There
have been some government officials who have spoken out against him and his
company. They have told him he and his company are not welcome in the
communities they represent. A lot of the gay community has protested against
Chick-Fill-A for their position. What right does the government have is penalizing
a business for taking a moral stand for their personal religious beliefs. Isn’t
that unconstitutional in that we have freedom of religion? What right does a
segment of the population have in disrupting a privet business because they do
not support their political ends? What a marvelous testimony to the truth of God’s
Word in that by Chick-Fill-A standing on the righteousness of God’s Word He has
blessed them with a large increase in business revenue.
How shameful it is that the church, which preaches God’s Word, has
remained aloof on the subject. There is a great lesson to be learned here on obedience
to God’s Word. God will bless those who praise Him. The day of the Lord’s wrath
is soon to come and every knee will bow and acknowledge Him. Those of us who humble
ourselves before Him now and obediently seek His righteousness will be hidden
from His anger. (Seek the LORD, All you humble of the earth Who have
carried out His ordinances; Seek righteousness, seek humility. Perhaps you will
be hidden In the day of the LORD's anger. Zephaniah 2:3) This is the Word of God, a message of truth, from a God
of love, patience, mercy, forgiveness, and redemption.
Perhaps if the church would firmly stand on the true Word of God the
pews in their sanctuaries would be packed as the booths at Chick-Fill-A. I am
in admiration for the admiration of the folk who have shown their support for
an institution that stands solid upon their beliefs.
